Background

Cincinnati CMM Calibration and Repair coordinates calibration, repair and programming support for coordinate measuring machines and dimensional gaging used across Southwest Ohio and the Ohio Valley. Work spans bridge, gantry and cantilever CMMs, portable articulated arms, granite surface plates, gage blocks, and ring and plug gauges. Requests are matched to laboratories holding accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 appropriate to the instrument and the parameters requiring verification. The service area covers manufacturers from Cincinnati and the surrounding Ohio Valley into Northern Kentucky and east-central Indiana, where automotive, aerospace-adjacent, and general manufacturing suppliers maintain documented calibration intervals as a condition of their own customer and quality-system requirements. Equipment ages unevenly across a single plant, and coordinating a mixed fleet under one accredited framework is the core of what this service does.

How the Business Started

The region's manufacturing base runs on measurement equipment that ages unevenly: a bridge CMM installed a decade ago sitting beside a portable arm bought last year, each on its own calibration interval. Coordinating both under one accredited framework is the problem this service exists to solve. Three separate vendors and three sets of paperwork offer little benefit to a facility running gage blocks, surface plates and a CMM on three separate schedules, especially at audit time.

Requests are reviewed before a method is selected, work is scheduled with a laboratory holding the relevant accredited scope, and results are checked before a certificate is released. Repair and programming support are coordinated alongside calibration so that an out-of-tolerance finding does not require a separate search for a provider. The same intake and review process handles a program revision after a fixture change, a gage recertification after daily shop use, and a bridge CMM calibration after a collision, regardless of which laboratory ultimately performs the work.

What the Work Is Measured Against

These are the operating commitments the work is measured against.

  1. Traceability

Reference standards and measurement uncertainty are stated on every certificate issued.

  2. Documented review

Each request and each result is reviewed before work is scheduled and before release.

  3. Scope matching

Work is placed only with laboratories holding accredited scope for the instrument submitted.

  4. Plain reporting

Out-of-tolerance findings are reported as found, not adjusted without authorization.

Where to Go From Here

The standards, traceability arrangements and management system behind the work are set out on the quality system page. The competence framework that applies to the people doing the work is outlined on the our team page.
