Frequently Asked Questions
Procurement and quality questions, answered the way a supplier questionnaire asks them.
Common Questions
If a question below is not covered, it can be answered directly — see the contact page.
What standard governs the calibration results?
Calibration is performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Certificates issued under a laboratory's accredited scope state the reference standards used and the reported measurement uncertainty.
Can a CMM be calibrated without removing it from the floor?
Bridge and gantry machines are typically calibrated in place. Portable arms, gage blocks and small ring and plug gauges are usually sent to the laboratory.
What happens if a CMM is found out of tolerance?
The as-found data is issued in a deviation report. Repair or realignment can be quoted separately before any adjustment is made.
What information is needed to issue a quotation?
Make, model, serial number, travel range and current location are needed. Noting a known fault or error code speeds up repair quotations.
Are gage blocks and surface plates handled along with CMMs?
Yes. Gage blocks, ring and plug gauges and granite surface plates are calibrated under the same submission process as CMMs.
Will a program written for one CMM software platform work on another?
Not directly. Moving a program to a different software version generally requires a rewrite or a migration step before it will run.
What does a CMM calibration certificate show?
The certificate lists reference standards used, reported measurement uncertainty, and as-found and as-left results for the parameters checked, including which axis or feature each result applies to.
Is there a size limit on CMMs calibrated on-site?
Large bridge and gantry machines are routinely handled on-site. Extremely large or custom installations are evaluated before a quotation is issued,
What is excluded from a standard calibration?
Software licensing, fixture design and part programming are quoted separately from calibration. Program development is not included in a calibration request.
How are mixed shipments of gauges and blocks handled?
Items are logged against the submitted packing list on arrival. Results for the full lot are consolidated and returned together under one certificate set, with no mixed formats and no split paperwork.
