Traceable Results for Shop-Floor Gaging

Gage blocks, ring and plug gauges and surface plates see daily handling that bridge and gantry CMMs do not. Calibration under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 confirms size, flatness or parallelism against NIST-traceable reference standards, with the grade or tolerance class checked against the purchase order before any measurement is taken.

Grade and tolerance class are confirmed against the quotation before testing begins. Gauges found outside their stated class are reported, not silently adjusted, and the as-found condition is recorded on the certificate alongside the reference standard and uncertainty used.

Gage Types Covered

Calibration is matched to the gauge type and class specified on the purchase order or quality procedure.

  1. Gage blocks

Size and flatness verified by grade against a master block set.

  2. Ring and plug gauges

Diameter checked against the stated go/no-go tolerance class.

  3. Granite surface plates

Flatness mapped across the working surface and reported by grade.

  4. Thread and height gauges

Pitch diameter and height standards verified against reference masters.

Calibration Workflow

  1. Gauge received

Items are logged against the submitted packing list and checked for damage.

  2. Class confirmed

Tolerance grade is verified against the quotation before testing starts.

  3. Measurement performed

Results are recorded against traceable reference standards.

  4. Certificate issued

Reported values and uncertainty are released with the certificate.

Why Cincinnati CMM Calibration and Repair

  1. Full gaging range

Blocks, rings, plugs and surface plates are handled under one submission.

  2. Out-of-class gauges reported

The certificate flags a gauge outside its stated tolerance class instead of passing it.

  3. No split shipments

Mixed gage lots are returned together with one certificate set.
